Uni project. We had to pick a typographer out of the hat, then we had to design a piece that represented that person. I got Edward Johnston, designer of the London Underground Roundel and the famous font of the Underground "Johnston type"
I wanted to highlight the different parts of his life and highlight what he was less known for, calligraphy. Theres a quote somewhere saying that Johnston was the father of calligraphy.
So i designed a timeline of Johnstons life in the style of an underground map. The different zone represents his legacy and the fact that his designs for the underground are still used to this day.
The coloured "exchange" boxes show the other fonts that he designed in his life, and the line that branches off shows who he directly influenced.
